Its amazing that a single suggestion, on a warm sunny evening, in early June 2013 can evolve so rapidly into something the whole community can be proud of.
"Lets have a village fair"
Maybe, it was just the temperature in the beer garden at the time (some may say the vino helped), but putting a suggestion like that to a fun loving and enthusiastic community team, was like putting a red rag to a bull.
The Crawcrook & Greenside Environment Group was buzzing with thoughts and ideas about what could be done.
With only spare time and a very small group, setting up a fair with close to 100 stalls, plus entertainment and activities, was no simple task.
Especially with only two months from idea to fair!!
Bouncy castles, candy floss, face painting and lots of activities were in order.
Kids of all ages were to be entertained, and that is exactly
what we achieved.
The yummy cake stalls sold out super fast!
Glitter Tattoos gave that
extra sparkle for kids and adults alike!!
Fantastic raffle prizes donated by our generous local
businesses were won.
Over 1200 local people had fun in the sun with dancing, a Judo exhibition, live music, basketball coaching and more.
We even had a few soldiers from the Army tent attempting to win in a match against Crawcrook Judo Coach, and medal winner Kevin Pattison (below).
Everyone really pulled together for the community with money raised going to make improvements like plant beds, Christmas lights and more
